Frequently Asked Questions - First Aid
Does my company need first aid training?
The minimum first aid requirement for all organisations is to appoint a person to take charge of first-aid arrangements, to look after first-aid equipment and facilities, and call the emergency services when required.
However, formal first aid training can benefit many organisations, particularly those that have significant health and safety risks in their workplace, for example that use machinery or hazardous materials.
Employers are best placed to understand the exact nature of first aid requirements and what provisions are needed, and a first aid needs assessment should be undertaken. This assessment should consider:
- The nature of work undertaken
- Workplace hazards and risks
- The nature and size of workforce
- The work patterns of staff
- Holiday and other absences of those who will be first-aiders
- The organisation’s history of accidents
The results of this assessment will determine the level of first aid training required.
What type of first aid course should I book?
Our portfolio of training providers offer a range of first aid training courses to suit your organisational needs.
We have basic and full first aid at work courses, aimed at first-time first aiders. There are also refresher courses for those that have already undertaken training and wish to enhance and revisit these skills.
We also have specific first aid courses available, including to develop offshore first aid skills, and to confidently use a defibrillator to administer CPR.
Where do I do first aid training?
Most training providers will have the capability to host the training at their facility, or in your own office or worksite.
Most training providers will have course calendar dates scheduled and the training will take place at their own facility. Go to ‘book a course’, select ‘first aid’ under the training category and select the relevant first aid course under course title. From there you can filter by location, training provider, and event date.
Depending on minimum/maximum numbers, training providers may be able to deliver the course at your worksite (onshore or offshore). All training providers delivering this option can be selected by going to ‘book a course’, begin the search with the location field and filter by ‘onsite’, then select ‘first aid’ under the training category and select the relevant first aid course under course title.
Where can I find out about the changes to first aid at work regulations?

What will I receive after completing a course?
This will vary per training provider and course. Full details of certificates and qualifications are outlined in the information section of each course.
